Import ChatGPT History

RecurseChat allows you to import your ChatGPT conversation history, making it easy to keep all your AI chat history in one place.

• Unlike ChatGPT app, which requires you to load and wait to find an older conversation, every imported conversation is visible in the sidebar and you can scroll through the sidebar to your oldest conversation.
• You can continue chats with local AI offline after importing ChatGPT chat history.

How to Export Your ChatGPT History

1. Visit chat.openai.com
2. Click on your profile picture.
3. Go to “Settings”
4. Click on “Data Controls”
5. Request your data export
6. Wait for OpenAI to email you the export
7. Download and unzip the exported data

How to Import into RecurseChat

1. Open RecurseChat
2. Click the Settings button on the bottom left toolbar
3. Go to “Chat History” section
4. Click “Import” button from the “Import ChatGPT Chat History” section
5. Choose your downloaded ChatGPT data file (conversations.json)
6. Wait for the import to complete

Your ChatGPT conversations will now appear in RecurseChat’s history, properly organized by date and searchable just like your native RecurseChat conversations.

Notes

• All branches in your ChatGPT history are preserved.
• You can import multiple times without creating duplicates.
